Haptics of Light
Project type /
Design, Research, Prototyping, HCI
Date /
2023
Location /
TU Eindhoven
Role /
Researcher
The Haptics of Light project explored how haptic feedback influences user interactions with a lighting control knob. By integrating different haptic effects, such as vibrations, resistance, and detents, into the knob, the project examined how tactile sensations impact the perception and usability of lighting controls. Prototypes were developed and tested with users to evaluate the emotional and functional effects of coupling haptics with light adjustments, such as dimming or effect changes. The findings provided insights into how haptic feedback can enhance intuitive interaction and engagement, offering new opportunities for designing lighting systems that feel more immersive and responsive to users.
